Airport photo exhibit is “Looking Up”
AUSTIN, TEXAS – What does the ceiling of Rockefeller Center in New York City, the bottom of a hot air balloon and a free falling leaf have in common? They are all images from a unique perspective, tied to the theme of pointing the camera up for visual photographic inspiration. The collections titled “Looking Up” from the Austin Shutterbug Club are now on display at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
A great example of this theme is displayed in “Sunburst” by photographer and club president Lucy Durfee. Her camera looks up to the sky following tree trunks and branches of tall Texas pecans. Through the trees, the sun burns a starburst pattern in the picture while the camera lens produces a hint of a rainbow prism effect.
“Looking Up” means it’s a dramatic view point, at least 45 degrees from the horizon, not just 10 or 20 degrees up” said Durfee. “Each member was able to submit up to four images for consideration. A committee judged all the images and selected at least one image per member.”
Other images from the exhibit include Steve Stoken’s picture of two hot air balloons climbing above the clouds, Rose Epps’ flaying saucer-like image of the ceiling light fixtures in Rockefeller Center, Kathy McCall’s black and white image of workmen on top of the Bandera, Texas water tower and Jane Guerin’s grab shot of a single falling leaf.
The exhibit is on display through April 01, 2010 in the Airside East Gallery located on the concourse behind the Austin Article bookstore across from Gate 8, in the area of the airport past security checkpoints accessible to ticketed passengers only.
