Airport hotel, terminal exits and parking projects move forward
Construction at Austin-Bergstrom continues as the foundation of the Hyatt Place Hotel forms, shops in the terminal have relocated to make room for improved concourse exits, and the building framing for Park & Zoom offices is starting to rise near the airport entrance.
Hyatt Place Hotel reaches foundation stage
A new Hyatt Place Hotel is under construction at the airport. It can be seen from Presidential Boulevard on the right as one passes the Hilton Austin Airport. The new Hyatt will be a four-story, 139-room facility. It is located between the Hilton Austin Airport and the Cell Phone Lot. The project has reached the foundation stage and utility service pipes are visible. Once completed, the hotel may be accessed from SH71, by taking the Spirit of Texas Drive exit or from Presidential Blvd., turning onto Spirit of Austin Lane, as if going to the free Cell Phone Lot.
Estimated to be completed in 2017, the Hyatt Place Hotel will include surface parking for guests, a main lobby, café, dining area, meeting space, state of the art fitness center and a swimming pool.
Constructions walls, exits and store relocations
Behind the construction walls across from Gates 9 and 10, improvements to the passenger exiting system from the Barbara Jordan Terminal concourse are underway.
The renovations have relocated two gift shops. The Austin Warehouse District is now across from Gate 6, near Checkpoint 1. There is also an arm of the Austin Warehouse District across from Gate 9. The Austin and Texas themed shop offers clothes, watches, mugs and other Keep Austin Weird gifts. The former Stars of Austin store is now an expansion of Austin Article between Gates 8-9 and offers comfort items such as travel pillows, kid’s and sports apparel, and ladies fashions.
Park & Zoom structure taking shape
One of the active construction sites noticeable from SH71 near the airport entrance is the new Park & Zoom. It will create 2,000 new covered parking spaces at ABIA. The building frame for business operations is clearly visible at Hotel Drive across from the Hilton Austin Airport. The concrete pier supports for the canopies that provide covered parking are visible. This new on-airport parking site and the additional Bark & Zoom will provide airport pet boarding services and is being developed by Scott Airport Services, a local Austin business.
What may appear to be a giant hole at the site is the formation of the water quality pond. The pond will collect and filter storm water runoff. A new roadway is in the works to accommodate traffic for Park & Zoom. One roadway will connect Presidential Blvd. to Hotel Dr.
