Here is a guest post by City Demographer Ryan Robinson about multifamily development in Austin -
The first quarter of 2016 saw another monster wave of incoming product hit Austin's vibrant multifamily market as 28 projects with over 4,000 new units were submitted to the City of Austin for site plan review. Over 1,600 units received full entitlements in the form of an approved site plan during the quarter and can now begin construction. However, only three developments began construction and another three projects were completed.
At some point in the not too distant future, we should begin to finally get a sense of when we might expect this big construction boom to start cresting or begin to flatten out at least a little bit. But I must admit, I've been anticipating a crest for some time now and it just doesn't seem like there's hardly any weakness at all in this amazing market.
