The Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers recognized the City's communications staff with seven awards for efforts in 2012.
The City took home first place awards for:
- Best Website (Cities with population 90,000 or greater) for the ATX Grand Prix site developed as a resource for the community and visitors alike during last November’s inaugural Formula One Grand Prix in Austin.
- Best Use of Social Media for the City’s Twitter account, @austintexasgov. TAMIO recognized Austin’s creativity with Twitter, including live-tweeting of Council meetings and events, and its ability to use humorous language to engage and provide information to residents.
The City also took home top awards for the Best One-Time Special Event and Best Media Relations. The City earned second place Silver Star awards for its Public Service Announcement (Population 100,000 and greater) and Best Marketing Plan/Campaign (Population 100,000 and greater).
