When the Austin Code Department decided to launch a blog, we brainstormed and dialogued on how we could make this a successful forum for anyone, from community to city employees, to learn about who we are, what we do, and how we can come together to make the community better. We are excited because we have so many ideas to share! From DIY’s to videos to printable material that you, the community, can take to meetings and share with others, this new resource is another opportunity to connect. Before we get ahead of ourselves, we’d like to share a little bit about Austin Code, and our growing role in keeping the community safe and clean:
Back in 2009, the Austin Code Department was a small division of the Solid Waste Services Department. Now, we have over 100 employees as a standalone department, with an important responsibility to the community we serve.
Our Code Officers help keep our community safe by identifying dangerous and substandard conditions in each of the districts they are assigned.
City codes and ordinances are created to protect our health, safety, and quality of life and we play a vital role in educating the public, and enforcing the city codes and ordinances to do just that.
We care about Austin, and our mission is to provide quality education and enforcement of city codes and ordinances so that it will be a more livable city. And we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!
Together we make the community better.
If you see a potential code violation in your area, call 311 or use the Austin 311 app. Remember, you can do so anonymously
