Commendation for Sergeant Sandi Barnes

Hello,

I just wanted to take the time and send this note to compliment and give thanks for the exceptional service I have received from Sergeant Sandi Barnes.

On 2/1/2015 at 8:32 am I was given a speeding ticket in an area where the posted speed limit was 45 while driving at 45 MPH. Currently it is in dispute as to whether that sign was accurate or not. An error was made. I accepted the ticket and called 311 and asked for the Ofc who gave me the ticket's supervisor name and contact info. I left Sgt. Sandi Barnes a message and waited.

She responded the same day, followed up, verified the information I gave her and took steps to address if possible the situation. What struck me though was Sgt. Sandi Barnes patience, kindness and calm way of talking to me. She was never short, in fact quite the opposite. While I am sure she had/has more pressing and possibly more grave situations to attend to, she never once gave me the impression that my situation wasn't important. It's important to me so she was prompt, efficient and courteous in addressing my concerns.

We live in a time and age where many feel that they are treated poorly by law enforcement. I had a very calm, business-like and warm experience and wish APD would have Sgt. Barnes conduct seminars on how to treat citizens.

I am not sure if I will have to go to court, but if I do I will, in the meanwhile I am grateful that I had a kind, patient and professional officer like Sgt. Sandi Barnes to walk me through this process. As a community we are lucky to have Sgt. Sandi Barnes supervising police officers, setting the pace and tone and ensuring that citizens feel respected and addressed in the best possible way. We are lucky indeed.

Thank you,
DA
