An AustinTexas.gov supervisor was recognized last week for his efforts to improve the City’s information technology and promote Austin’s open government initiatives.
Matt Esquibel, Web Services Supervisor with the Communications and Technology Management Department, won a Best of Texas Award for Outstanding IT Service and Support at the July 12 Center for Digital Government award ceremony.
Esquibel was a critical member of the team that redesigned the City’s website earlier this year and launched the City’s new Open Data Portal. He currently is seeking ways to partner and collaborate with local citizen groups such as Open Austin, and also has been engaged with national groups such as Code for America.
According to the awards program, “He has been a champion of a more open, innovative and collaborative environment both within and without the organization. Matt exemplifies a dedicated public servant, always looking for opportunities to increase citizen participation and engagement by increasing access to, and therefore understanding of, the workings of city government.”
Esquibel was voted Public Servant of the Year in 2011 by GovFresh.com.
