Looking to use your technical skills for the benefit of your city?
It’s not too late to join Google Places API Developer Challenge, a competition aimed at making public information more accessible.
Along with other similar-minded people from around the world, you can help build an app to connect Austinites to their government, and their community.
Google wants to use this developer challenge to expand the comprehensive global database of more than 95 million places that power Google Maps. The Places API includes location search data; points of interest; user check-in data; and submitted reviews for restaurants and other places. People will have free access to information about a variety of nearby places such as establishments, geographic locations and prominent points of interest.
They are looking for creative applications that utilize this data and have recently extended the submission deadline to Nov. 30.
