Lady Bird Lake Cabomba

Jul 19, 2013 - 1:57 pm

Cabomba, or fanwort, is a native aquatic plant that grows along both north and south shores of Lady Bird Lake between Barton Creek and the Lamar Bridge.  I had no idea when covering this story that something that looked so ugly on the top could really be benefiting all types of aquatic life just beneath the surface. Native aquatic plants such as cabomba provide oxygen, food, hiding places and habitat for fish, turtles, waterfowl and other aquatic life. Another benefit is that it helps trap sediment to help keep the water crystal clear. Producer: Jonathan Uhl
