Recently, I went to a small 'hispanic' grocery store close to my house. They always have nice produce at good prices and I don't get overwhelmed there like I do at walmart. There is a slight incline to enter the store. As I entered, I tripped and started to fall right in front of 3 policeman who were taking their break. I live in a high crime area and there are usually police cars in this '24 hour surveillance' area. Anyway, most people know I have slight cerebral palsy and I have an uneven gait. As I tried to steady myself, I noticed my shoe was untied. I said 'excuse me sirs, could one of you tie my shoe? I have a balance problem and if I try to do it myself, I may have trouble getting up from the floor.' One food natured fellow said, 'why certainly.' He proceeded to tie it and then introduced himself and the other officers. We exchanged pleasantries and shook hands. I thanked them for their service. I went on with my shopping and they left. I am so thankful to these Austin policemen and what they do. That little kindness meant alot.
