The City of Austin encourages you to keep Austin Beautiful by registering for our city wide cleanup event Saturday April 11th from 9am to 11am. You will not only be participating in helping to keep Austin a clean city, but there will also be live music, free lunch, drinks, snacks and treats, free t-shirt’s, and door prizes. Austin Parks and Recreation wants to offer a day of fun for you and your four legged friends by hosting a pet extravaganza at the Metz Recreation Center from 11am until 2pm on Saturday April 11th from 11am to 2pm. Come and enjoy free fun activities for you and your pet. There will even be contests for biggest and smallest pet as well as coolest trick, so don’t be afraid to show off your furry friend.
If you have a passion for exploring different cultures, or are just interested in learning about global culture, The George Washington Carver Museum Cultural and Genealogy Center will be presenting Celebrate me! Ghana. Join us and explore the dress, food, customs, history, music and more of Ghana. This event is free and open to the public and will be Saturday April 11th from 12pm-4pm. The Urban Forestry Division of Austin Parks and Recreation is hosting The Trees of Govalle, a civic spectacle featuring live performances of city workers showing the challenging and hidden work of the Urban Forestry employees. It will be on Sunday April 12th at 8pm at Govalle Park and is free and open to the public with reservations online at http://www.forkliftdanceworks.org/reservations-trees-govalle#overlay-context=trees-govalle.
While Christmas may not be the first thing on your mind in April, the Austin Police Department is already hard at work getting ready for the 2015 holiday season’s Operation Blue Santa and need your help redesigning their t-shirt logo. They have opened up a t-shirt redesign contest and are taking submission now until Wednesday, June 10th. If you have a knack for design and are interested in joining the contest, you can fill out an entry form at https://www.austintexas.gov/event/operation-blue-santa-2015-t-shirt-redesign-contest and submit it along with your design digitally on the same website. Winners will walk with the Operation Blue Santa parade float and hand out 25 T-shirts with their winning design.
