ATM! A Toda Madre! “A Mother’s Strength” Manchas y mas Marcas.
Mamas (baby with mother) 52” x 52”
This exhibit is a shining example of what the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is all about. By providing a museum quality exhibition opportunity that focuses on works by Latino artists, the MACC helps promote the contemporary Latino experience to the greater Austin community. Manchas y Mas Marcas is just such an exhibit.
Mami (maternity) 52.5” x 72”
This exhibition is an installation consisting of a combination of 32 pencil drawings and wall paintings. In the vesper of Mother’s day and the celebration of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (the daring intellect), this body of work celebrates the strength of motherhood, the mystery of the rites of passages, and the power of the intellect.
Mamacita (reclining woman) 52” x52”
The notion of tattoos as marks or stains is an extra layer in the concepts of the installation.
Celia Alvarez Muñoz is a conceptual multimedia Texas artist whose projects include writing, book art, photography, installation and public art.
This exhibit is definitely worth the visit.
