Zilker Tree

Every year a magnificent Austin tradition called the zilker tree goes up. As you will discover it is a very long, Intricate process and that the workers that help to illuminate every holiday season. Many Austin Energy regulars have been helping set this yule tide greeting apart from the other displays in town every year. The tradition started in 1967 and the zilker park moonlight tower is one of only 17 remaining in Austin out of an original 31 that provided the city its first urban lighting system. Austin’s Moonlight Towers, which date back to 1895 and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. are the only working lighting towers of their type still in use anywhere in the world.
