Between 2004 and 2008, an average of 53 fires per year were initiated by juveniles in Austin, with an average annual dollar loss of $1.25 million, and one fatality during the five year period. The purpose of the Juvenile Fire Intervention Program, facilitated by the State Fire Marshall's Office, is to prevent fires through the assessment and education of juvenile fire setters and their families, with referrals for further treament made when appropriate. |
