Since 2003, it has been prepared and conducted by sources external to the City of Austin. Generally, a random sample of addresses is selected from utility records and/or listings of city-limit zip codes and used as a representative sample of the general population of the City. Generally, both English and Spanish versions of the survey are developed. Telephone follow-ups have also been conducted to ensure completion of the surveys and to obtain additional information.
