The Budget Office annually gathers resident input on City budget priorities for the upcoming year. For the FY 2015-16 budget process, residents are invited to participate by hosting their own Budget in a Box neighborhood or organization event, attend a facilitated Budget in a Box event, or participate through the Budget in a Box web app.
The Budget in a Box web app is designed for individuals to learn about eight City service areas, make decisions about budget priorities, and submit results all online! Budget in a Box can now be played online in minutes – play today and share with your friends.
All results must be received by June 15th to be included in the final Community Engagement Report.
Budget in a Box - Available April 22 - June 5:
Budget in a Box is an activity designed for participants to facilitate their own small community discussion about the City of Austin’s services, performance, and budget. The activity consists of a literature mailer box, instructions, a DVD of the Budget Basics video, discussion materials, and comment cards.
After the group discusses and makes decisions about their preferences for spending on eight categories of City services, the facilitator will return the results sheet to the City. A Spanish language version is available for our Spanish-speaking residents. Residents are welcome to host their own meeting, attend a facilitated meeting discussed below, or participate in the online version.
Watch the new Budget Basics Video below about Austin’s municipal services and how they are funded.
If you have already completed the Budget in a Box exercise, you may enter your results. Any comments, questions, or suggestions about the City’s Budget or the Budget engagement process can be sent to email@example.com.
