The Capitol Complex comprises 122 acres of the Capitol grounds and surrounding property. The Texas Facilities Commission has identified approximately 21 acres of under-utilized property that present a major opportunity for development of pedestrian-friendly retail spaces, entertainment venues, and first-class office space, all of which would generate substantial new revenues for the city.
The concept, carried out over several decades, would add 7 million square feet of development (or the equivalent of 13 Frost Bank Towers). Of that total, one million square feet would be in three new state office buildings and the remainder would be other forms of development such as retail, residential, and mixed use.
