Career Criminal Unit

The Career Criminal Unit (CCU) was created in January 2002. The mission is to target high profile suspects, repeat offenders, and persons on probation or parole who continue to pose an immediate danger to our citizens. This will be accomplished by working closely with units within our department and various criminal justice agencies at the municipal, state and federal level. This partnership will enhance abilities in apprehending and prosecuting individuals who have a high propensity for criminal behavior.

The Career Criminal Unit is responsible for supporting all APD Division Detective Units requesting assistance in apprehending criminals or suspects who have been identified and who have committed or are suspected of committing violent crimes.

The Career Criminal Unit has been assigned as the apprehension arm behind the “Top Offender” Program. The goals of this program are to reduce crime by focusing on the 10% of criminals who commit 80% of the crime and consistently use a sound methodology to produce a list of “Top Offenders” to be targeted.
