History
Circle C Metro Park was originally planned by as part of the Circle C Ranch which began in 1982. The development and its parkland was later annexed by the city. The Circle C Playground is estimated to have been installed in 1990. The metropolitan park serves citizens across Austin.
Project Description and Objectives
This project will focus on providing a new, enjoyable playground in Circle C Metro Park that meets and exceeds accessibility and playground standards, while providing play opportunities for children of all abilities. The existing playground will likely be pulled away from the low branches of the heritage oak trees, but the new design will still strive to provide shade for the new playground equipment.
The proposed date of completion is July 2020. We believe this park will create a more inclusive, comfortable space for many years to come.
Objectives:
- Improve accessibility and inclusivity for children of all ages and abilities
- Limit risk to playground safety hazards including low branches and nearby parking lot
- Provide new play features to allow maximum enjoyment of the area
- Protect the heritage live oak trees
Proposed Schedule
- July 2019 – October 2019: Conduct community engagement opportunities
- October 2019 – December 2019: Develop and design a park plan
- May 8, 2020: Construction begins
Playground will open to public in 2021, exact date TBD.
