The Code of Management Practices (CMP) for Silver Users establishes a set of operating procedures designed to reduce the amount of silver and overall solution discharged by photo processors, commercial imaging businesses, and diagnostic and industrial x-ray imaging facilities.
Under the CMP, each facility has a recommended performance category and percentage of silver they must recover from their silver-bearing wastes as well as economically viable and currently available silver recovery techniques. This program is based on a concept known as Best Management Practices, or facility-specific plans implemented by an industry sector to control and reduce certain pollutants.
The Silver Council has prepared CMP guides for photo processors, commercial imaging (printers), and diagnostic and industrial x-ray imaging facilities. These guidance materials are available for download below:
