Unless you are arriving directly from an international point of departure, no prior permission is required however we sure would like to know you are coming.  Because of the limited parking at KAUS during the Formula One event, the airport strongly encourages aircraft operators to make a reservation with a KAUS Fixed-base Operator (FBO).  Whether you intend to park for several days, a couple of hours or just picking up or dropping off a passenger for the event please make a reservation with an FBO if you intend to fly into or out of KAUS between Tuesday, October 20th and Tuesday, October 27th.

KAUS has two Fixed-base Operators (FBOs) on the Southeast side of the airport:

Obtaining Prior Permission Required Number (General Aviation including Business Jets)

KAUS will require prior permission to park on the airport for all aircraft except for normally scheduled commercial aircraft due to restricted space on the airport. The PPR program will be in force from 0600Z Monday, November 12, 2012 to 0600Z Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Aircraft arriving prior to Monday, November 12th will require a PPR number (PPR#) to remain on the ramp during the PPR period. A parking reservation and a PPR number may be obtained by contacting the above Fixed Based Operators by phone or by emailing a request to them. The FBOs at Austin will have dedicated spaces for "stop and drop" operations however PPR#s will be required for those types of operations as well. The request form is available at KAUS Parking Request Form.

The times submitted on the form will be used to assist FBO and Traffic Management in planning for aircraft arrival and departures and confirming a reservation for parking. Parking reservation (PPR#s) times are not slot times but are used to insure that a parking space is available when you arrive. Special Traffic Management Program procedures may be utilized by FAA Traffic Management system to control arrival and departures based on actual traffic experienced.

Obtaining Gate or Parking Space for Commercial Charter Aircraft

Gate space at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Terminal is limited. Most contact gates are leased as preferential use for scheduled carriers. Contact gate space at the terminal may be available for domestic arrivals not requiring customs and immigration processing through an airline currently leasing gate space. Airlines with preferential use gates that may have available space are: American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, JetBlue and USAirways.  It is possible to work directly with these carriers for gate space.

The airport also coordinates the schedule of shared use contact gates (Gates 2, 3, 4, 23 and 25).  Although these gates are currently used by scheduled airlines they may be available for use for commercial charter aircraft.

Large wide-body charter aircraft (Aircraft Design Group IV and V) may be accommodated on a limited number of gates at the terminal. Two gates at the terminal have direct access to the Customs and Immigration hall.  The Department of Aviation owns two COBUS vehicles which may be used for ground loading of aircraft on adjacent apron space.  Information on gate and parking space for large charters may be requested by emailing  Airops@FlyAustin.com.

All charter operators are responsible for arranging their own above and under wing services including marshaling to and operation of the jetway, baggage loading/unloading and processing, lavatory servicing, trash disposal, fueling, pushback and passenger processing for departure. Information on gate and parking space for commercial charters may be requested by emailing Airops@FlyAustin.com.

Customs and Immigration Clearance

KAUS has a limited capability to process passengers and cargo arriving nonstop from origins outside the United States with prior notice. All operators seeking to fly directly to AUS from an international point of origin should contact the Austin Port Authority not later than 30 days prior to the desired arrival.

Charter flights need to contact either Richard Mendez or Key Campbell to seek landing rights permission.

Upon arrival all GA international arrivals requiring customs and immigration will be processed on the ramp.  Passengers and crew should remain with the aircraft and follow the direction of Customs and Border Protection Officers.

Large commercial charter aircraft arriving from international points of origin will be parked on the east side of the terminal for passenger and baggage to be off-loaded. Depending on availability, passengers, crew and baggage large commercial charter aircraft (Design Group III and above) may be offloaded at Gate 2, Gate 3 or off-loaded on the ramp and processed through the US customs and immigration facility in the main terminal. Gate 2 and parking spaces adjacent to the US customs and immigration area will be used for off-loading passengers, crews and cargo only.  Aircraft parked in these locations can expect to be asked to vacate these spots and be either repositioned or depart AUS after passengers and cargo are off-loaded.

Passengers and cargo may clear customs and immigration at Ports of Entry closer to the US border. Once cleared at those facilities the aircraft may proceed to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport or other airports in the Central Texas area and be handled as a domestic flight.
