Homeownership Counseling and Education
For first-time homebuyers, purchasing and maintaining a home and a mortgage can be stressful and confusing. NHCD offers free training that puts prospective buyers on the right track for homeownership.
Homes For Sale/ Developer-Incentivized Housing Construction
The City of Austin is a leading force in the creation of reasonably priced housing. Through its Developer Incentive Program, the City provides incentives to private and nonprofit developers to set aside affordable rental and ownership units in market rate developments to benefit low- and moderate-income households.
Down Payment Assistance Loans
The Down Payment Assistance Program (DPA) covers the down payment in a deferred 0% interest loan for eligible "first-time homebuyers" to assist with purchasing a home located within the Austin City Limits.
Community Land Trust
The Community Land Trust program allows buyers to purchase a home and lease the land. By taking the cost of the land out of the real estate transaction, land trust homes are more affordable than houses on the open real estate market.
Mortgage Fraud Protection Buying a home can be one of the most important financial transactions a person makes in their lives. Choosing the right mortgage lender and real estate professionals is essential to that transaction. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous individuals and institutions, including mortgage brokers, real estate appraisers, or real estate agents, may take advantage of vulnerable homebuyers by misleading them about key information like the value of the home to be purchased or the terms of the loan.
Fair Housing & Fair Lending The Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Office (NHCD) administers policies and supports nonprofits that take actions to affirmatively further fair housing choice and fair lending practices.
