The Austin Parks and Recreation Department offers several ways for individuals and families to explore Austin's beautiful natural spaces.
Austin Nature and Science Center
Located on the western edge of Zilker Park, the Austin Nature and Science Center (ANSC) is dedicated to the exploration of the natural world. The ANSC provides hands-on educational exhibits and recreational activities that increase awareness and appreciation of the natural environment.
Beverly S. Sheffield Education Center (Splash)
The Splash! exhibit offers a fun and exciting learning experience deep inside a simulated limestone cave. Multimedia displays and interactive exhibits demonstrate how the aquifer was formed and how it maintains its average daily flow of 32 million gallons of water at Barton Springs. Visitors can also investigate how their routine activities can impact local water quality while learning about water quality testing.
Zilker Botanical Garden
The Zilker Botanical Garden resides on parkland that is magnificently endowed by nature with handsome trees, natural grottoes and aquatic features that have been integrated into a design of spectacular beauty and tranquility.
