Did you know stretchy plastics (like single-use bags, plastic wrap and shrink wrap) don’t belong in your blue recycling bin? These “tanglers” are made of flexible, stretchy material that gets wrapped up in the gears of the machinery at the recycling facility, and shuts the system down. If they are stretchy, clean, and dry drop them off with a Zero Waste Block Leader to be recycled.

November 15 is America Recycles Day. To celebrate and move us closer to our zero waste goals, our Zero Waste Block Leaders are hosting plastic film collection events, like this one, throughout Austin. Check out the map to see all locations.

If you can't make it to one of these events, you can still recycle your stretchy plastics by dropping them off for recycling at a participating location.
