The Winter 2019-2020 Oakwood Chapel exhibit “Caminar (To Walk)” honors Tejanos buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitors have an opportunity as they walk through Oakwood Cemetery to reflect on the history and culture of Austin’s early Mexican-American community during the times of legally enforced segregation. Events include a ceremonial dance, storytelling, and a musical procession to enhance a digital map of burial sites.
"Caminar" will help illustrate how many of Austin’s early Mexican-American families were buried on the edge of the cemetery.
