PARK(ing) Day is an annual, worldwide event which generates public engagement and critical dialogue on the need for public, open spaces in urban areas.
Thinking of organizing an event? The first step is to read the application packet. Participants are encouraged to submit applications by Friday, Sept. 1; the final deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 12. Participants must pay $35 for the permit fee and an additional usage fee for the parking space, which may range from $10 to $16, depending on the location. See the application packet for approvals required from adjacent homes and/or businesses.
This year’s participants include the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Boomspace ATX and Austin Public Library. Further information on participants and their parklet locations is listed on Facebook.
