AUSTIN, TX – 34th Street from Medical Parkway to Lamar Blvd. will be closed to traffic for approximately three months, beginning on Saturday morning, January 14, 2012, for water, wastewater and storm water improvements. In approximately one month, 34th will also be closed from Lamar Blvd. to approximately ½ a block past Lamar to the east.
This project includes installation of new and updated water, wastewater, and storm water lines. The contractor will bore the utilities underground to cross Lamar, so that Lamar traffic does not have to be detoured. The road will also be reconstructed during this time to so that this closure will not be necessary again in the future.
Access to businesses along 34th Street will be maintained by alleyways behind businesses. Business access signs will be posted to guide traffic.
Citizens and business patrons should be prepared for possible detours and are advised to allow for extra time when traveling through this area. The City encourages the public to drive carefully and courteously in this area while the work takes place.
