Effective January 1, José G. Roig is Austin Code's Interim Director

José G. Roig photoAustin, TX – We are pleased to announce the appointment of José G. Roig as Interim Director effective January 1, 2020, following the retirement of Director Cora D. Wright on December 31, 2019.

José has worked with the City since 2007. He most recently served as an Assistant Director for Austin Code Department since July 2018, where he oversaw all field operations. Prior to this role, José served within the Development Services Department (DSD) as Building Official, Building Inspectors Division Manager, Inspectors Supervisor, and Commercial Inspector.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University, in addition to an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Fire Science from Kaplan University. José holds several certifications from the International Code Council, including Certified Building Official, Commercial and Residential Building Inspector, Commercial and Residential Energy Inspector, and Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector.

We are excited that José has agreed to serve in this capacity as we continue implementing our transition plan to find a permanent executive staff leader. The Austin Code Department is more committed than ever to build upon our successes and work to make sure city codes and ordinances are met to build a safer and greater Austin together through code education, collaboration and enforcement.
