On Saturday, February 23, 2019, the APD Northeast District Representatives and more than 1,500 University of Texas at Austin student volunteers are expected to participate in The Project on Rundberg Ln. This is one of the largest one-day student and community run service events in the nation.
Established in 1999 by the Volunteer and Service Learning Center at The University of Texas at Austin, the project involves student volunteers, city government departments, community organizations and local businesses. The Project has received numerous service awards, including the Keep America Beautiful National Award for Community Improvement in 2000.
Over the past several years, thousands of students have partnered with APD, Rundberg Educational Advancement District (READ) Schools, Austin Parks and Recreation, Austin Public Library, community and local businesses to help improve the area. Hundreds of trees have been planted, pergolas, benches, walkways and gardens have been built along with countless cleanup projects. This year will be bigger than ever including the placement of a little free library at the Gus Garcia recreation center. We estimate over 1,000 volunteers of students and community members along with the APD Northeast District Representatives.
