The Austin Police Department continues to investigate the critical incidents that occurred on January 4 and January 5, 2021. In order to stay consistent with policy and practice on critical incidents, APD is identifying the officers involved in these incidents.

January 4, 2021 - Officer Involved Shooting critical incident at 12520 N IH 35 SVRD SB (Springhill Suites): 
•    Officer Javier Rodriguez - 2 years of service with APD - (Fired weapon)
•    Officer Kamowa Reynolds - 2 years of service with APD - (Deployed taser)

January 5, 2021 - Officer Involved Shooting critical incident at 2500 Wickersham Ln.: 
•    Officer Gabriel Gutierrez - 5 years of service with APD - (Fired weapon/initial officer)
•    Officer Luis Serrato - 2 years of service with APD - (Fired weapon/responding officer)

In an effort to maintain transparency, APD’s critical incident videos are published within 60 days of a critical incident. Within 45 days of the incident, APD must notify the community if the video will not be published within the 60 day timeframe. At this time, we are planning to release the videos regarding the January 4 and January 5, 2021 critical incidents prior to the March deadline.
