The Austin Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public in a sexual assault case. On Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at approximately 5:45 a.m., a female was jogging on the hike and bike trail near East Ave. and Cummings St. The female was on the trail prior to being sexually assaulted by an unknown male. Another jogger heard the female scream, intervened and stopped the sexual assault.
The suspect is described as:
White or Hispanic male
5’10” to 6’0”
Shaggy short hair

The Austin Police Department Sex Crimes Unit is currently following up on all leads as part of the ongoing investigation, including looking into whether the Austin High School case is related.
APD is working closely with the Parks and Recreation Department. In addition, the Department increased patrols and officer presence on and around the trail.
It is important to remember that sexual assault cases are sensitive in nature and it takes time to gather detailed information. APD will share more information as soon as it is available.
