Deceased: Kenneth “Kyle” Keller, White male, DOB: 06-15-1970
On Monday, February 5, at approximately 4:04 p.m., Austin EMS received a medical call for a female patient who had fallen and was bleeding heavily from her head. The patient was located at a neighbor’s residence in the 3000 block of Fontana Drive.
At 4:18 p.m., EMS updated the call advising the female patient had sustained a penetrating wound. In addition, a possible assailant was located at 3005 Fontana Dr. Austin Police officers were immediately dispatched to 3005 Fontana Dr. Officers arrived at 4:20 p.m. and began establishing a secure perimeter around 3005 Fontana while evacuating neighbors. Attempts to make contact with the occupant(s) of 3005 were unsuccessful.
The SWAT team was called to manage the scene and continue attempts to contact the occupant(s) inside the residence. At 8:16 p.m. the scene was determined to be secure. Inside the residence, SWAT officers located Kenneth “Kyle” Keller. He had sustained an injury incompatible with life. Homicide Detectives were called in to investigate.
APD is currently investigating the circumstances of what led to the female patient’s injuries and Keller’s death.
The female patient was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition. For safety reasons the patient’s name and location of the hospital are not being released.
There is no public safety concern in regards to this incident at this time.
