Entrepreneurs focused on “Internet of Things” can apply through May 18, 2020

AUSTIN, TX - The City of Austin Economic Development Department, in partnership with the Austin Young Chamber, is excited to announce applications are open for the Austin Fast Start small business pitch competition.

Austin Fast Start is a reoccurring pitch competition focused on various industries that reflect Austin’s economic development priorities. The virtual pitch competition will occur on June 15.

“Austin Fast Start continues to be a successful program that elevates businesses through connections, awareness, and funding,” said Veronica Briseño, Director of the Economic Development Department. “We’re honored to provide a platform for these entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative business ideas.”

The quarterly pitch competition is offered through the Economic Development Department Small Business Division, which offers one-on-one business coaching, entrepreneur training, plus incentives and resources to help small businesses prosper in a competitive business environment.

The next Austin Fast Start focuses on the Internet of Things. These businesses offer solutions that transform the way we live and work by leveraging the interconnection between everyday objects and internet connectivity. Internet of Things businesses use increased connectivity, data, algorithms, and/or automation to improve services and enable things like smart cities, smart homes, and more. These ground-breaking businesses work to solve problems that impact people.

Judges from across the community with diverse backgrounds and skills will score the applications. The top four scored applications will be selected as finalists and virtually pitch their business on June 15. After the finalists have pitched, the judging panel will score, and the audience will vote to determine a winner. One winner will receive a cash prize of $2,500 plus $4,000 in-kind prizes, including business coaching and resources to jumpstart growth.

Apply and learn more at www.austinyc.org/austin-fast-start/.

Applications will close at 11:49 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020.
