Opportunity for veterans and spouses to learn entrepreneurship on September 11-12
AUSTIN, TX - The City of Austin Small Business Program, a division of the Economic Development Department, is hosting Boots to Business: Reboot, an entrepreneurial training program for veterans offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). This two-day classroom course on September 11-12, 2019 will take place at the City of Austin’s Entrepreneur Center and is open for enrollment to any veteran, service member (including members of the National Guard and Reserves), or spouse considering business ownership.
Boots to Business: Reboot is a two-step program. Step one is the two-day in person workshop where participants are introduced to entrepreneurial business concepts and resources available to access start-up capital, technical assistance, contracting opportunities, and more. After completion, those continuing to pursue business ownership are encouraged to enroll in step two – Revenue Readiness Course, an online course offered by the Mississippi State University. Participants are also directed to additional SBA resources, such as the network of Veterans Business Outreach Centers, Small Business Development Centers, Women’s Business Centers and SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives).
“We know veterans make great entrepreneurs. In fact, nearly one in ten businesses in the U.S. are veteran-owned,” said Nina Ramon, Public Affairs Specialist for the SBA District Office – San Antonio. “They have leadership skills, tenacity, and discipline required to start and grow businesses, but most haven’t applied those skills in a business context before. Boots to Business: Reboot is offered to help them prepare for success and evaluate the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship.”
