This year's theme is accordion music to honor the late Anthony Quinn Ortiz, Jr.
The City of Austin’s Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC)—located at 600 River Street will celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, October 21 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Univision 62 Austin Music Producer David Rios will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
This year's theme is accordion music to honor the late Anthony Quinn Ortiz, Jr. Local artists, non-profit organizations, and members of the community will participate displaying beautiful altars in the community gallery and outside the building. Las Piñatas ATX, by David Goujon will be on display and children will have an opportunity to take a piñata home! Other children’s activities include sugar skull decorating, face painting, and story time in the second floor library. The annual classic car and bike show Show-N-Shine will also be on display.
A special musical lineup begins at 3:00 PM with Chilean singer-songwriter Ricardo Parra followed by Big Squeeze accordion contest winner Rito Pina. Ballet East Co. will present rich and colorful folkloric dances. Additional performances by: Johnny Degollado, Anthony’s family – Los Corbetas, Conjunto Aztlan with special appearances by Clemencia Zapata and accordionist Susan Nevarez.
Eva Ybarra y su Conjunto, the undisputed grand dame of the conjunto accordion, who was among the nine recipients of the 2017 National Heritage Fellowship presented by the National Endowment of the Arts will be here to close the event with an unforgettable music concert.
