Share your input at a special interactive community forum.
Join the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) for a special interactive community forum on Thursday, December 14th from 7-9 pm. They are seeking input from the community regarding the 2018 Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz: A Tribute to Women event.
In 2009, the ESB-MACC partnered with the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago and has continued celebrating this event every year. This year, the ESB-MACC is requesting input from the community to help enhance the event.
ABOUT SOR JUANA: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz was a seventeenth century Mexican nun; a celebrated playwright, mathematician and poet in a time when women were barred from accessing education. In 1667, this self-taught scholar entered a convent after spending her formative years as a Lady in-waiting at the King’s court. The convent was the only place she was allowed to continue educating herself. Her work is now looked upon as a defense for women’s right to education. Sor Juana’s poetry has been revered throughout the Americas as an example of literary genius.
