On Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 2:25 a.m., Austin Police responded to the 7400 block of N. IH-35 northbound in reference to a crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered a multiple vehicle crash and located the victim in the roadway. The decedent has been identified as 26-year-old Denyse Jaimes-Olmos.
The preliminary investigation shows that Ms. Jaimes-Olmos was traveling northbound on N. IH-35 in a 2011 GMC Terrain when she crashed into a barricade on the outside shoulder. After that initial impact Ms. Jaimes-Olmos' GMC slid across all lanes of IH-35 finally stopping in the inside lane. A second vehicle then crashed into Ms. Jaimes-Olmos' GMC from behind causing Ms. Jaimes-Olmos to fall into the roadway. A third vehicle struck Ms. Jaimes-Olmos.
Ms. Jaimes-Olmos was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries. There were no injuries reported from the third vehicle.

This is Austin’s eighth fatal traffic crash of 2021, resulting in nine fatalities. At this time in 2020, there were twelve traffic fatalities.
