In recognition of the fifth annual National Pet Adopt-a-thon, the Austin Animal Center will partner with local pet store Petsense and non-profit animal rescue groups Sept. 7-8 to find 1,000 homeless pets a forever home.
The adoption event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at Petsense, 7900 N. FM 620, Suite 110.
Each pet adopted will go home with a free bag of pet food and a gift bag filled with toys and treats.
The Austin Animal Center will have the “Wheel of Adoption” at the event at which adopters spin the wheel for an adoption fee of $5, $10 or $15.
All Animal Center adopted pets will include spay or neuter surgery, a microchip and vaccinations – a package valued at more than $200.
For more than a year, the Austin Animal Center has partnered with Petsense which places the City’s homeless cats and kittens in its store and facilitates pet adoptions. Petsense has helped more than 70 cats find homes since last summer.
“This store has been a tremendous help to the animal shelter,” said Jennifer Smith, Customer Service Supervisor. “The store provides the food, litter and cares for the animals until they find a home.”
Pet adoptions are also available at both the Austin Animal Center, 7201 Levander Loop, and at the City’s dog overflow kennels at Town Lake Animal Center, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St.
The centers are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. To view adoptable pets check www.austinanimalcenter.org or call 3-1-1 for more information.
