On Saturday, May 4, 2019, at approximately 10:42 a.m., Austin 9-1-1 received multiple reports of an individual having been struck by a vehicle in the 5400 block of South Pleasant Valley Road. Witnesses described the male, Eric Walz, as lying unresponsive next to his vehicle. Eric Walz was transported to a local hospital in serious condition by Austin-Travis County EMS. He was declared brain dead on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 7:02 a.m.
Once notified, detectives immediately began locating witnesses. Preliminary information shows that the incident stemmed from road rage. Video of the impact has been located. The driver of the other vehicle struck Walz and accelerated, launching Walz over the hood of the car. The vehicle left the scene, leaving Walz on the ground. The other driver did not stop to render aid, nor did that person report the incident to police. Police are searching for a light brown Scion XB.
