Deceased: Jesse Ramirez IV, Hispanic male, 16 years of age
Arrested: Juvenile, 14 years of age
On Thursday, December 19, 2019 at approximately 4:52 p.m., Austin 911 received a call of a shooting at a residence located in the 2600 block of Collins Creek. Officers arrived and located Jesse Ramirez IV inside the residence with a gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene and transported Ramirez to St. David’s South Austin Hospital.
Detectives from multiple units responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that a group of juveniles was in the home playing video games. One of the juveniles produced a handgun and began pointing it at the others in a joking manner. As the individual did so, the handgun discharged striking Ramirez. The juveniles fled the scene, however, one of them called 911 to report the shooting. The juvenile who fired the handgun was identified and charged with aggravated assault.
On Friday, December 20, 2019 homicide detectives were notified that Jesse Ramirez was pronounced deceased on at 1:47 p.m.
On Monday, December 23, 2019 the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head. Manner of death is homicide.
