On Monday, January 11, 2021, at approximately 1:37 a.m., Austin police officers responded to the 9200 block of E. U.S. 290 for a male with a gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but the man, later identified as Matthew Bocard, succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at 2:06 a.m.
While on scene, officers learned that the shooting occurred in the 7000 block of Grand Canyon Drive. The area was secured and homicide detectives and crime scene personnel arrived to process evidence at both locations. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time and investigators are seeking witnesses.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
