The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified the victim in last Thursday’s homicide on 7^th Street as Kaylin Price. On Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 12:06 a.m., Austin 911 received several shots fired calls at East 7^th Street and IH 35 SB under the bridge. APD officers arrived on scene and discovered blood near the area where shots had been fired and several cartridge cases. Officers did not locate any victims or injured persons at the scene. 

Shortly after, Austin 911 received a call regarding shooting victims located at West 18^th Street and Colorado Street. Upon arrival, APD officers located two victims. A 21 year old unresponsive Hispanic female, later identified as Kaylin Price was found in the back seat of a dark sedan suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County E.M.S. arrived on scene and performed life saving measures that were unsuccessful. Price was pronounced deceased on the scene at 12:19 a.m. by Dr. Thompson. The second victim, a male who suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg, was transported to a local hospital.  

Homicide detectives and crime scene technicians investigated and processed the scenes. Several witnesses were located and interviewed.

Witnesses described a known 15 year old suspect that fired gunshots from the passenger side of a car, and fled the scene after a disturbance had occurred.

Further investigation revealed, that the 15 year old suspect had shot Price and the male victim.

The suspect met Price and her friends at E. 7^th St. After the shooting occurred, friends of Price attempted to drive her to a local hospital. When they were unable to find the hospital, they stopped at W. 18^th Street and Colorado St. and called 911. 

Detectives have charged the 15 year old suspect with Murder. The suspect was arrested and subsequently booked into the Gardner Betts Juvenile Justice Center. 

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound and the manner of death as Homicide. The medical examiner also confirmed that the victim was approximately sixteen weeks pregnant.
