Picture of the new playscape that is the Loewy Family PlaygroundOn March 12, 2020 at 12:30 p.m., there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate a new playground at Murchison Pool Park. The Loewy Family Playground, which is named for the Phil and Adam Loewy family, was completed in February 2020.

The all-ages playground was initiated by the Parks Committee of the Northwest Austin Civic Association (NWACA) as part of the Parks and Recreation Department's (PARD) Community Activated Park Projects (CAPP) program. The CAPP program provides an opportunity for neighbors, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and partners to raise funds and in-kind contributions to implement park improvement projects that align with PARD goals and meet community priorities.

Multiple funding sources contributed towards the cost of the project: contributions from more than 140 community members and families, a major donation from the Loewy Family, Public Works Department's (PWD) Neighborhood Partnering Program, Austin Parks Foundation ACL Music Festival Grant, NWACA's Special Reserve Fund, and Parkland Dedication Fees. The partner groups held community meetings to select the playground design and equipment. PWD's Neighborhood Partnering Program provides opportunities for community and neighborhood organizations to affect public improvements by sharing in the costs of those efforts with the City of Austin.

Members of the press and the community are invited to join the celebration.
