On Thursday, March 1, 2018 at approximately 12:04 p.m., an Austin Police Department officer received information from an acquaintance about a possible murder. The acquaintance told the officer a male friend claimed to have killed his wife two days earlier. The officer called the Homicide Unit to report the information. Detectives picked up the acquaintance and were able to ascertain the name and address of the male suspect and his wife. Surveillance was established on the residence where detectives observed the male and wife’s vehicles parked. Detectives also learned the name of the wife’s employer and called. The employer advised detectives the wife had not reported to work in two days. Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence. SWAT was called to execute the warrant. The male was called out of the residence where he eventually exited and was detained. SWAT members and paramedics entered the residence and located a deceased female.
This death is being investigated as suspicious. The Travis County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy today. The deceased female's name will be released once next of kin is notified.
There is no public safety concern in regards to this incident as it may be related to domestic violence. We anticipate filing the charge of first degree felony murder today.
