Arrested: William Morataya, Hispanic male, 24 years of age
On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at approximately 2:48 p.m., Austin 9-1-1 received a call of a man that was shot and lying in the 4th floor hallway of the WoodSpring Suites. An APD Metro Tactical team was across the street when the call came out. They arrived approximately two minutes later and located a Hispanic male, with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life saving measures until Austin Fire and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived to take over. Additional units from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Violent Crimes Task Force also responded and began speaking with witnesses and recovering evidence.
At 3:42 p.m., police were notified that the victim, who possibly goes by the name of Chato, died from his injuries. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.
The Travis County Medical Examiner has conducted an autopsy and ruled the manner of death a Homicide.
Police believe the victim was targeted for a specific reason. There are no indications of public threat in relation to this incident.
William Morataya was is currently in the Travis County Jail and has been charged with first degree felony murder. His bond has been set at 1 million dollars.
