Event will send message that we're working together to prevent crime
Today, the Austin Police Department, Travis County Sheriff’s Office and community partners announced that the 29th Annual National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 with a kickoff celebration from 5-7 p.m. at The Domain® in the Macy’s Parking lot.
Neighborhoods throughout Austin are invited to join thousands of communities nationwide to participate in the event that is designed to:
Neighborhoods are encouraged to come together and send the message that we are all working together to prevent crime and keep our neighborhoods safe. From 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, residents are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, EMS and fire fighters.

For the rest of the nation, National Night Out occurs in August. Since Texas is so hot, the event has been moved to October when it is cooler outside.
