AUSTIN, TEXAS – During the exciting SXSW season, fantastical hand-made creatures are on display from Mexico, and an interactive exhibit from the United Music Museum aims to entertain passengers while walking along the terminal. The changing exhibit program at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is accessible to ticketed passengers, past security checkpoints on the concourse between gates 7-11.
The Consul General of Mexico in Austin coordinated with the Museo de Arte Popular (Museum of Popular Art) in Mexico City to bring this exhibit to the Austin airport. On display are beautiful alebrijes, brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of wild and mythical creatures, hand-crafted by some of the most accomplished artisans in the country. More alebrijes are on display at Casa México, a free event at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. Visit casamexicosxsw.com for more information.
Based in Austin, the United Music Museum is hosting an exhibit entitled “What Does Music Mean To You?” invites passengers to contemplate what music legends such as Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie have said about the power of music. Travelers are encouraged to post their answer to that question on social media. Visit www.unitedmusicmuseum.org for more information about their events.
