British Airways' Boeing 787-9 arriving in Austin on Feb. 1 for new, regularly scheduled AUS-LHR service.
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Austin has become the first North American city to fly British Airways’ new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline launched regularly scheduled 787-9 service February 1, 2016 on its Austin-London nonstop.
British Airways’ Boeing 787-9 is scheduled to arrive daily at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 4:15 p.m. and depart at 6:20 p.m. Tickets are available at www.ba.com.
“British Airways once again brings the newest, most advanced aircraft to Austin. Its 787-9 exemplifies two years of British Airways service and growth in Austin,” said Doug Driskill, Americas Commercial Client Services, Dell, and chair of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce’s Air Service Task Force.
British Airways has been promoting Austin as a destination for British travelers and celebrating the quirky and creative cultural connections between the two cities. British Airways began flying daily between Austin-Bergstrom International and London Heathrow in March 2014 on its 787-8 Dreamliner. In October 2015, British Airways added the option to fly to London in First class, introducing its four cabin Boeing 777-200 to the route.
The Boeing 787-9 has increased range and is 20 feet longer and four inches taller than the 787-8. The 787-9 is a mid-size, dual aisle, twin engine jet and Boeing’s most fuel efficient aircraft to date - 20% more fuel efficient than the similar sized commercial jets it is designed to replace. The windows are over 30% larger than those on most similarly sized aircraft and the brightness can be adjusted at the touch of a button.
