The Austin Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating two suspects wanted for impersonating law enforcement officers and attempting to get money from a victim.
At this time, APD is aware of one incident where an elderly female was contacted by phone by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer. While she was on the phone with this person, another suspect claiming to be law enforcement showed up at her residence. The suspect produced a badge and took the victim to her bank. He attempted to get her to withdraw money from her account under the guise of conducting a criminal investigation.
The second suspect is described as:
40 to 50 years of age
Dressed in plain clothes
Average height and build
Spoke fluent English with no accent
The Austin Police Department would like to remind citizens:
• Officers will not ask you to withdraw money from your bank account
• Do not ever give out your personal or financial information
• If you are ever in fear or unsure if somebody is law enforcement call 9-1-1 and ask for a uniformed APD officer to respond to your location for verification
APD is asking anyone with information about this crime or who may be a victim to please call 9-1-1 to make a report.
