Sixth Street from San Antonio to Rio Grande will have the two south side lanes closed beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012. The closure will then alternate to the two north side lanes beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday January 8, 2012. Full lane use is anticipated to be restored each evening by 7:00 pm. When the two south lanes of 6th Street are closed, access from 6th Street to southbound Nueces will be closed and vice versa for the north lane closure.
Built in the 1920’s, the current alignment of the Little Shoal Creek Tunnel follows the original natural channel of Little Shoal Creek. This project will relocate the Little Shoal Creek Storm Water Tunnel into the Nueces Street right-of way between 5th Street and 8th Street. The project will increase the needed capacity of the tunnel, and replaces sections of storm water, water, and wastewater lines, improving reliability of the storm system and reducing the risk of localized flooding. Motorists and pedestrians in the area are urged to follow all warning and detour signs, and refrain from crossing any orange safety fence or barricade lines.
